 The Studio Shine boutique is run by a full-time image consultant who specializes in working with the homeless. The brainchild of a Moving Ahead Program alum, Studio Shine provides image consulting, first-impression workshops, and a full week’s worth of business attire -- all of which is up-to-date, professionally dry-cleaned, and tailored -- for every student.
As part of the program, students receives at least a one-hour private consultation, during which they are coached on how to wear clothing that accentuates their natural beauty and body shape. Then, every student is carefully measured for fit and provided with all the pieces of a professional wardrobe -- a suit, dress socks, hosiery, cufflinks -- and everything else required to complete “the look,” including haircut and hairdressing services.
Seventy percent of the clothing in Studio Shine’s stock is donated by generous people who are cleaning out their closets, while companies such as Clarks Company N.A. and Thomas Pink are major supporters of Studio Shine. Clarks donates a pair of dress shoes to every MAP graduate, and Thomas Pink donates dress shirts and ties.
