| Begun in 1995, the Moving Ahead Program (MAP) is a 14-week job- and life-skills training program serving individuals who have experienced homelessness, addiction, mental illness, and/or histories of incarceration. Generally, one or more of these issues has caused significant disruption in their lives. Taught by our skilled, compassionate instructors, students learn to identify, pursue, and succeed in careers that are a match for their interests, abilities, skills, and work values.
MAP encompasses a variety of programs, including our introductory First Step course, Studio Shine image consulting services, the HirePower employment agency, a robust alumni program, and educational support services.
With more than 1,000 graduates, a waiting list of almost 100, and replicas of the MAP model in Topeka, Kansas, and St. Louis, Missouri, MAP is one of our most popular and successful programs.
Dr. Howard Shaffer, Director of the Division of Addictions at Harvard University, is a longtime supporter of and collaborater with MAP. His photo exhibit, "Expressions of Addiction," touches on his work with St. Francis House.
