| Launched in 2003, HirePower is a not-for-profit employment agency run by the Moving Ahead Program (MAP). Using the model of “supportive work,” HirePower, Boston’s first employment placement program for adults who are homeless, maximizes the chance of job retention by helping guests successfully navigate workplace challenges. In addition, MAP’s Dream Ventures engages staff and professionals from the local business community to provide expert entrepreneurial mentoring to students interested in developing their own businesses.
HirePower benefits employers by providing highly motivated, reliable, career-oriented MAP graduates for placement. Our staff provide weekly follow-up to ensure that each placement is a success. Because HirePower charges no fees, pays all taxes and insurance, and provides other support services to the candidates, the program saves employers 15% in overall hiring costs. HirePower will also facilitate the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), a federal tax credit that allows employers to reduce their federal income tax liability by as much as $2,400 per hire.
HirePower benefits employees by giving candidates the opportunity to put their MAP training into practice, as well as offering further opportunities to build skills in a range of workplaces, including both corporate and nonprofit settings. Candidates benefit from the ongoing personal and professional development offered by HirePower and MAP staff.
